OBI Asia Trade is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Deutsche Heimwerkermarkt Holding (DHH) - which is in turn majority owned by the Tengelmann Group in Germany. It has been operating in Hong Kong since 1985 as a Buying Office with comprehensive merchandise sourcing channels throughout all Asian regions. OBI Asia Trade handles diverse lines of Do-It-Yourself, Home Improvement and Discount Store Products like Tools & Hardware, Lighting, Houseware, Electrical Appliances, Gardening Items, Seasonal Ornaments, Outdoor & Indoor Furniture, Home Decorations, Building Materials, Toys, Garment and Garment Accessories.
OBI Asia Trade serves as the in-house buying office of major wholesalers and retailers in the US, Switzerland, Australia and New Zealand. "OBI" is the No. 1 Franchisee DIY Home Center Store in Europe and maintains 457 outlets, 342 of which are in Germany, 111 in the rest of Europe and 4 in China. OBI has revenues of Euro 4.4 Billion in 2002, and is backed by a staff of 23,000 worldwide. OBI Asia Trade also serves the 3,400 stores that are part of "Plus" - a leading discount retail chain under the umbrella of the Tengelmann group.
In addition to the head office in Hong Kong, OBI Asia Trade has extended its operation to Shanghai so as to further enhance its mobility in developing the sourcing market in China. OBI has recently opened its fourth store in China and is planning a number of additional stores.
To ensure merchandise is meeting with the various quality standards (e.g. TÜV, GS, UL, CE, SAA, DIN) as required by different customers over the globe, we have our in-house Quality Assurance specialists in Hong Kong and Shanghai who frequently travel around Asia working hand-in-hand with our suppliers to conduct factory audits, during production inspection and final random inspection.
