IKEA does not sell only chairs and tables. Our ambition is to sell a more comfortable home and a better living environment. The home environment is important to most people and affects our well being in everyday life. So the home should be practical, comfortable and attractive, without costing a fortune.
In IKEA we achieve this with a good range and successful purchasing. To purchase all the products that are sold in the IKEA stores is a huge task, and IKEA also has a unique organization with more than 40 trading offices in Europe, Asia and North America. Purchases are made in more than 55 countries through 1300 suppliers.
IKEA range articles such as furniture, lighting, metal, textiles and other products are characterized by simplicity, durability and facility of use and represent good design, color scheme and joy typical for all people of young spirit, regardless of their age.
If we can lower the price without affecting quality, then it is good for the many people, our customers. And what is good for them is good for us.
Today, there are 260 IKEA stores in 35 countries/territories (as of August 2007). 410 million customers visited our stores annually. The catalogue is our most important marketing channel. It's about 175 million copies were printed in 55 editions and 27 languages. The IKEA website is being used by more and more people as a source of information. It attracted 278 million visitors worldwide. In the financial year 2006 (1 September 2005 - 31 August 2006) IKEA made sales totally 17.3 billion Euros.
IKEA invests a great deal of effort to ensure that adopting a responsible attitude to environmental and social issues is a natural part of the Group's day-to-day work.
